Extreme Couponing Tip: Buying Multiple Newspapers

I get asked A LOT what the advantage is of buying more than one newspaper each week. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have one newspaper per person living in your house. I also can’t stress how important it is to NOT go out and buy them every week. Get a subscription (right now in Utah you can get one subscription for only $39 for the year. That is only $0.75 per WEEK!) When you go to the store and buy them, you are paying at least $1 and as much as $2 each week per paper!  You can have up to four papers delivered to your house each week.

WHY? Why do you need to have multiple subscriptions?

The answer to this is simple….HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SAVE?

Ask yourself how much a one particular item (one that you use a lot of like shampoo or razors or makeup) and how often you buy it? How much do you pay for it?

I can honestly tell you that I can count on ONE hand the number of times I have paid full price for things like toothpaste, shampoo, razors, makeup, etc).  That is because I get 4-5 papers a week (four delivered and one is given to me by a friend), and I am able to get 4-5 times the amount  of products than the person who only gets one paper.  Here are some examples:

Walgreens has a sale on Shampoo, it is priced at 2/$7 with a $3 Register Reward (catalina) when you buy 2. The paper had a coupon for $1/1 of that item, so here are two different ways the deal could go:

YOU ONLY GET 1 PAPER:

Buy (2) Shampoo 2/$7
Use (1) $1/1 coupon
Pay $6
Get back a $3 RR
Final Cost $3 ($1.50 each)

YOU GET 2 PAPERS:

Buy (2) Shampoo 2/$7
Use (2) $1/1 coupons
Pay $5
Get back a $3 RR
Final cost $2 ($1 each)

I know you are thinking, well its only $0.50, BUT that $0.50 has almost paid for your newspaper subscription for that week! If you use just ONE $0.75 (or more) coupon each week you will have paid for your papers with your savings. That is REALLY easy to do.

Honestly, I use an average of $15-$20 in coupons on most of my shopping trips so my papers are “paid for” over and over again.

You see the example above where it talks about why having two coupons is better than one. I want to list a few of the benefits of having multiple newspapers:

Several items are paired together in sales, where you have to buy 1 or more of an item to get the best price, and having multiple papers will provide you with coupons for each item.
When you buy a few of the item when it is on sale you avoid having to pay full price for the item if you don’t have enough “stored” until they go on sale again.
Sales cycle about every 3-4 months, so when you have a small stock pile of the things you use regularly you don’t have to pay full price for them, or even “run” to the store to pick it up (and inevitably spend more money).
When you have multiple newspapers you can take advantage of sales and stock up your storage very quickly with very little extra out of pocket.

My only personal “rule” is not to clear the shelves. I know I am not the only one looking for a good sale and needs to save money.

How do you feel about using multiple newspapers/coupons?

If you want to start saving money with multiple newspapers, there is a HOT deal right now!
