Getting kids to brush their teeth can be challenging. I have always been pretty good about having my kids brush their teeth at least morning and night but they don’t always run to the bathroom screaming and jumping up and down excitedly ready to conquer the “dark side”. The “do I have to?”‘s and the “but mom”‘s have gone down a LOT the past week for one reason alone – cool new Hello Kitty and Star Wars toothbrushes from Firefly! They are in LOVE with the Darth Vader and Obiwan Light Saber toothbrushes (who wouldn’t be, even I love playing with them , lol) and they make the coolest sounds (like you are swinging a real Light Saber around) and talk, and light up! What could be better? Firefly also has really great Ready Go Toothbrushes that light up Green, then yellow, then Red and are set to a 1 minute timer so they know when to stop. They have these in Hello Kitty and Star Wars as well. Between these fun new brushes and the Firefly® Hello Kitty Anticavity Fluoride Rinse I have hardly had to remind them to brush. They are often asking to brush more than morning and night – which is great!
I like to make things fun for my kids – things that normally aren’t considered fun or exciting – so that they at least don’t feel like the are being punished for forced. Like chores, helping around the house and yard, brushing their teeth, showering, etc. With four kids we have had to come up with some ways to make brushing teeth fun for kids. Here they are:
- Let your child pick out their own toothbrush and toothpaste (if there is something fun waiting for them they will be more likely to want to brush)
- Have a fun fluoride rinse they can use (this helps my kids a lot)
- Have a timer (or get a toothbrush with a timer) so they know how long they need to brush for
- Make a chart and give them a reward at the end of each week that they brushed twice a day
There are many ways to get kids to brush their teeth, but making it fun will keep them wanting to do it and they will develop good habits. With fun characters like Angry Birds, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, Marvel and more, as well as interactive flashing lights that will guide your kids through 60-seconds of brushing for each row of teeth, Firefly offers fun solutions that will assist you in entertaining your kids into healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
