I don’t want this to sound bad, but truth be told, and you can ask anyone who uses coupons, that your cashier will make or break your coupon shopping trip. Cashier profiling, is simply making sure that you get a cashier that is coupon friendly, and knows what they are doing.
There are times that I have been coupon shopping, and when I try to use coupons, the cashier acts like I am stealing or taking money straight from their pockets. . . . honestly…. (*rolls eyes*) …
It has been my experience that men are more easy-going than most women, when it comes to checking out, and the younger the better. You don’t want to get an inexperienced new hire that doesn’t know how to work the register yet, so watch for a minute before you choose a check out aisle, and see if they look like they know what they are doing, or if they are fumbling around and taking a long time. Try and choose someone who is a younger male, because they tend to be the least feisty.
I could go on for hours about the experiences I have had with different cashiers, but it just comes down to chance and smart “cashier profiling”. If you do get a good cashier that was nice to you and was able to help you without any or little problems, then you want to remember them and go back to that same cashier next time.
I am not candy coating this or trying to step around landmines. I am just giving my honest opinion about my experience with cashiers and using coupons. That doesn’t mean that only young males will be good cashiers when you are using coupons. I have had my fair share of young and old, male and female and they all have good and bad moments. Get to know your cashiers and talk to them a lot. Build a friendship with them and that will often help you as well.

They scan mine at the end and I stand there and watch each one to make sure it worked usually there’s some the have to call a manager for

As a cashier supervisor I can pretty much agree with that statement. Most of us tend to be unfriendly because of prior experience. There are “extremes” couponers who have no idea what they are doing. They come up with coupons for items they don’t have and tell us we have to take it. Also every store has a different policy in regards to coupons. In mine we can only take up to 16 of the same item. A suggestion from me is to become familiar with each stores policies

Great advice! Some cashiers don’t even like to bother with just a few coupons, so I can only imagine what it is like when a person has a lot of coupons.

Great post. I’ve had cashiers that pretended the coupons went through and then I get out the door and see that they tried to scan them and it didn’t work so they just gave up. That crap really fires me up.

Or they try to bundle a bunch of coupons instead of putting one at a time so they double properly, I catch them doing that, usually the guys, and tell them to do it right, I don’t go through the time and effort with coupons to be shorted a few dollars each time.

I hate this! What is worse is when they have to manually enter the discount (BOGO coupons). They act like they can’t figure out what the discount is. If the item is on sale for 50¢ and the coupon is B6G2 the discount is $1.00! It was worse when I had some B10G10 coupons. The item was 52¢ each and they had to pull out a calculator eveytime! The discount is $5.20!
I hate shopping in the evening but I found this helps when you have a lot of coupons. They are less likely to rush through scanning your coupons because there are not a lot of people in the store.
