Let’s face it – it is that time of year when everyone is sick and it gets passed around your house a hundred times until you are ready to just move out to the car. Just as someone is getting better, they get the sickness again – and so on and so forth until the end of the cold and flu season. We have been blessed to not be as sick this year, but I think it is because I kids are getting older and more aware of “germs” and how quickly they spread. That doesn’t mean that we haven’t had our fair share of sickness. It is always nice to know how to deal with sickness when it comes to you, and so I want to share 7 effective ways to soothe sore throats since this has been a kicker in our house.
Sore throats are terrible and I know that when my kids get them, they are such bears. I want to help them feel as comfortable as possible and there are some really effective ways to soothe sore throats. Here is my list:
- Drink hot tea with fresh lemon juice and honey
- Gargle with warm salt water and hydrogen peroxide (mix 1/4 tsp of table salt to a mixture of 2 oz of warm water and add 2 oz of hydrogen peroxide)
- Use a soothing sore throat spray or lozenges like Chloraseptic® will help relieve the pain and cool nasal passages
- Drink a lot of water and lots of sleep so your body can heal
- Avoid acidic things that will irritate the throat
- Pump up the vitamin C to get your immune system active
- A hot bath with lots of steam always helps you relax and soothe your throat
You can combine many of these for effective treatments until your sore throat is gone. Since there isn’t a way to rid yourself of a sore throat any faster it is good just to do small things to soothe the pain until it is gone. Our favorite thing to use is Chloraseptic® because of it’s fast acting ingredients that quickly relieve me of the pain. I can take it with me when I am on the go and it helps me feel better right away. They have great products including lozenges that soothe nasal passages and suppress coughs, to sprays that target pain when and where it hurts. I always keep both on hand. It is also the #1 pharmacist recommended brand for sore throat liquids/sprays so you know that it works how it is supposed to. Check out Chloraseptic®’s complete line of products and flavors to help keep you feeling your best this cold and flu season.
If you want to try and avoid areas that could have outbreaks of the cold and flu you need to use Chloraseptic®’s online Cold + Flu tracker. It will help you stay ahead of the flu this season. Pick up your Chloraseptic® at mass retailers, major drug stores, and grocery stores nationwide. Keep some on hand so you are prepared when you need it.

Great tips, all I’m missing is the bath tub. I’m saving for one now, but I want a big nice one. So it may be until this summer before I can swing that. Then we’re in bubble bath heaven whenever we need.

I like the idea of a spray medicine. It seems less likely to spill, less likely to be contaminated by sticky fingers and just better all around.

Sore throats are the worst! Normally if the kids get a sore throat we are already dealing with strep.
I will have to try these next time as it takes a couple of days for the antibiotics to kick in.
Great tips!
