Going into A Minecraft Movie I was a little skeptical if the movie would be cheesy or fun and entertaining. While there was a little bit of cheesy to the movie, overall I really enjoyed the storyline and the comedy. Jack Black, as expected, delivered a great performance complete with a few new original songs. Jason Momoa proved once again that he can do more than just the tough guy act, which was refreshing. (on a side note, if you haven’t seen him in Fast and Furious 9 – you’re missing out). There were a lot of unexpected twists and turns and a couple of predictable moments. Overall we were highly entertained, laughed a lot, and really enjoyed this live-action Minecraft movie.
My 15-year-old son gave it a 9/10 because it was funny and had a great storyline. My 13-year-old daughter gave it a 7/10 because while it was funny and had a good storyline, there were some “Minecraft” things in the movie that didn’t align with gameplay and it bothered her a little. But otherwise really enjoyed it. I settled on an 8/10 because I was highly entertained and enjoyed the movie.
The CGI, props, and overall immersion into the Minecraft world were fantastic. They did an incredible job. Jack Black and Jason Momoa were so fun to watch together. I also would love to put out to the universe and I want my own “Dennis” haha.
Overall I think

About A Minecraft Movie:
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, “A Minecraft Movie,” directed by Jared Hess, is the first-ever big screen, live-action adaptation of Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time.
The film also stars Emma Myers (“Wednesday”), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (“Just Mercy, “Lisey’s Story”), with Jennifer Coolidge.
Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “A Minecraft” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg—a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
Oscar nominee Hess (“Ninety-Five Senses,” “Nacho Libre”) directed, with Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Olafsson and Vu Bui producing, and Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, Jonathan Spaihts, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary and Anthony Tittanegro executive producing.
