I was able to screen Black Widow in order to write this review. All opinions are my own.
I am not gonna lie. I have been looking forward to the Black Widow movie for a long long time. Black Widow is one of our favorite characters, so her back story was important. There is no denying the trailers are freaking amazing and just leave you wanting more. I am here to tell you – that you will NOT be disappointed. In any way. The whole movie is packed with details, using every bit of the space with something important. It is very intense, but there are sections of down time where you will be able to get your heart beat back to normal.
Scarlett Johansson is everything we want and more. As we learn about her family Yelena (played by Florence Pugh), Alexei/The Red Guardian (played by David Harbour), and Melina (played by Rachel Weisz) you become even more attached. Scarlett and Yelena are amazing together. There is a lot of humor in the movie to offset the intensity of the action and fighting.
There are a couple of end credit scenes for Black Widow – so be sure to stay all the way to the end. The very last one will leave you like “WHAT??”.
The action, storyline, determination, compassion, and hope that the movie brings will have you adding this to your favorites. As far as the content – here is what you need to know.
Black Widow Parents Guide:
Sex/Nudity – (0/10)
The only thing remotely close to fitting this category would be when Yelena is talking about getting a hysterectomy.
Profanity– (3/10)
There are several uses of the word Sh**. Maybe some other things like damn or hell. No F-bombs.
Violence – (6/10)
There is a lot of fighting sequences. Most of them are fairly clean. Very little/if any graphic violence. There is a lot of fighting with knives, swords, hand to hand combat, vehicle explosions, etc.
Alcohol, drugs, smoking – (1/10)
Natasha and Yelena each have a drink, but it is not emphasized and not in a bar. They also use alcohol to clean a wound. Another scene with some drinking but also not emphasized.
If you have seen other Marvel or superhero movies then this will be right in line with what you are expecting. My 9 year old watched it and was ok – but if you are not sure, screen the movie first. It is so good – I promise you won’t mind watching it twice anyways!
