Celebrating DAD is something that should be done all year round. There is birthdays, anniversaries, and more that you can make this board for or even as a just because. It has been my experience that my husband has preferred homemade gifts from his kids rather than us spending money on anything. That is why we have put this great list of Father’s Day Crafts that are fun and are really functional and look great!
Make a homemade gift for DAD this year!
We have tried to stick to this policy over the years and not spend too much on each other. So today, I am going to share a DAD Photo Board DIY that is simple and inexpensive to make, and looks amazing! It will be a great centerpiece in your home for years to come.
The first thing you are going to do it take a 1″x6″ board and cut it to your desired length (mine in about 12″ long). When this is done, you will then you will sand the board on all edges to make them smooth.
Now that the board is cut and sanded, you will need to paint or stain it. Whichever you prefer. Just use what you have on hand. Since my husband is an outdoorsman, we decided to spray paint his board in a camouflage pattern. You will need 4-5 different colors of camouflage spray paint (dark green, light green, tan, brown, black) and sticks, grass and weeds.
Once the board is dry, we are going to use some stencils to paint the letters on. Alternately, you can us a machine like the Cricut and cut out vinyl or buy stickers. Since we are adding a photo to the board, you will want to place where you want the photo and style the letters around it. Mine is on the side in a verticle style, but it is fun to play around with the placement and what you like best.
Now you have the letters on, we are going to put the photo on. There are two ways to do this. You can use a clip and put the photo on that way, or you can use Mod Podge and secure it that way. I added two photos and had my kids all write their names on the board.
With the letters on and the photos secured, your board is almost done. If you want to hang it on the wall, you will need some kind of hanger on the back. You can buy kits to do this for very cheap (and some with a lot of different pieces). Alternately, you can get an easel to display it on.
These Father’s Day photo boards are the perfect Father’s Day Gift and will look great paired with a homemade card, and homemade cookies Sunday morning!
