Summer is a great time to do crafts with your kids and keep their imaginations active and their minds busy. Part of this is providing them with supplies to craft and create and another part is providing them with fun toys that allow them to step out of their world and into a whole new place where Dinosaurs roam or where they are an equestrian with their own horse. Creative play is something I have always encouraged with my kids, so when I saw the Schleich Dinosaurs and Horses, I knew they would be the perfect way to spark my children’s imagination.
We got the Dinosaur Set with Cave, Big Horse Show with Horses and the new Feathered Raptors set. I hid these from my kids and set them up on the table to have a big reveal. They were so excited when I told them they had a surprise waiting. They all lined up with their eyes closed and when I told them to open their eyes, their reactions were priceless. Even my 12-year-old loved the horse set. The girls immediately grabbed the horse box and started going through it, organizing everything to set it up, and my son claimed the dinosaur sets for his own. Of course, little sister bounced back and forth between them playing with both and helping set them up. They were not hard to put together because of the clear instructions and easy to assemble pieces.

Of course, little sister bounced back and forth between them playing with both and helping set them up. They were not hard to put together because of the clear instructions and easy to assemble pieces.
Once the sets were put together, they played with them for hours, enjoying all different kinds of stories that they imagined. My 5-year-old even had to put all the horses and dinosaurs to bed last night before she could go to sleep. These are great sets that are high quality and I know they will last my kids for years to come as they enjoy fun creative play.
Inspired by these sets, my kids came to me asking if we could do a fun horse or dinosaur craft. I, of course, couldn’t turn that down since we love doing crafts, so we came up with some really fun ideas. I am sharing the Dinosaur 3-D Picture Craft inspired by Schleich we did so you can have creative time with your kids too.
To make your Dinosaur 3-D Picture Craft, you will need a 12×12 piece of white cardstock, and 8×10 piece of cardstock, (or smaller piece you can use to cut strips of paper from), glue stick, scissors, the dinosaurs from here, watercolors and crayons. Take the 12×12 paper and let your kids watercolor the background for their dinosaurs. While the paper is drying, have them color and cut out the dinosaurs you printed out. Once everything is ready, you will take a 2-3 inch strip of paper (cut about 1/4 in thick or less) and fold it in half. For the Pteradactyl you will want to fold it in thirds. Attach the papers to the dinosaurs, and then help your kids glue them to their picture. This Dinosaur 3-D Picture Craft was a lot of fun for my kids and they are having a great time playing with it and their Schleich Dinosaur toys.

Love this and I see a future gift from a couple of my grandkids. They love dinos.
Assembling pieces can be sometimes done without looking at the instruction materials. It’s fun to get creative in forming them with your own imagination. If not successful, the kids can refer to it anytime. 🙂
