DIY Cat Paw Keepsake + Salt Dough Recipe

We love our cat. He has been a part of our family for over 12 years now and he is definitely King of the castle. While he sometimes is a little grouchy, most of the time he is very lovey and snuggly. My kids all have a special bond with him as well, so I thought it would be fun to make some keepsakes for them. We make some salt dough, and pressed his paw print into it, and then they wanted his print, so we did their hand print and him paw print on one so they could keep that. They turned out so great!

To make the Salt Dough:

Mix ½ cup of Salt

1 cup of flour

¾ cup of water

(food coloring as desired – or paint them after they have dried)

Mix all of the ingredients together and kneed for about 10 minutes. If you have a stand mixer, I mixed the ingredients together and threw them in the mixer with the dough hook and let it mix for about 10 minutes. It worked great!

Once the dough is ready (make sure it is not sticky), you will lay it out on wax paper and make your molds. You can use cookie cutters, etc, and a straw to put a hole in it before you bake it.

Once you have them ready, bake it on 250 degrees for about 30 minutes (checking every 10). You don’t want it to brown. Remember it will continue drying after you take it out as well.
