School just started for my kids and they wanted to make a teacher gift. It is a nice gesture that lets the teacher know how much we appreciate all their hard work. Both of my parents were teachers and my brother is a principal so I know that little things like this go a long way. We filled the Chalkboard Mason Jars with pens, pencils and highlighters and put a few treats in the bags along with a card that each of my kids made for their teachers. I love how they turned out! Making the Chalkboard Mason Jars was easy and fun. You will need a can of Chalkboard paint, mason jars, pens, pencils, highlighters and chalk. I also used some white paint to paint my kids’ names and year on the jar so the teacher could always remember.
Paint the jars with the chalkboard paint. You may want to do a couple coats.
Let the paint dry overnight, then use a white paint and a small brush and write “FROM _____ 2016″ or whatever you want there to remind the teacher who the gift is from. Then fill the jars with pens, pencils and highlighters. I cut pieces of cardstock that were about 2″ x 3” and added a cute apple sticker then let the kids make cards as well as decorate the Chalkboard Mason Jars.
These are easy to make and fun for the kids and the teachers. We used a lightly damp paper towel to erase the chalk and redraw. I need to make some for our house. They are great for any occasion. Just as a side note, I found the bags and apple stickers at Target. The chalkboard paint from Lowes and I just used regular white chalk from Walmart that we had on hand.
You can also take sandpaper and make it look distressed. I am going to try that on our next ones that we are making for Halloween. It is really cute and makes it look antique.
Have you tried this before? How did it turn out?
