Our family loves movies – as you can tell from all of the entertainment stuff that we like to share with you – but it is always nice to just stay home and have a family movie night. Our go-to resource when we want to have a movie night is Redbox. I love that they have locations close to us, a great selection of Blu-Rays, DVD’s or Video Games. To save myself the headache of trying to figure what to get for our friends and family and to make sure that I was able to give a gift that everyone would love, I decided to get Redbox e-gift cards. I know they will be a hit! I also enlisted my kids to help me make these great DIY Stocking Ornaments to give to them with the codes. They are easy to make and turned out really great. My kids told me they are the stockings for our Elf on the Shelf dolls. 🙂
To make these cute stocking ornaments you will just need a piece (one of each color you want to use) of felt. You can get the 8×11 sheets at craft stores and Walmart for about $0.20 or less each. As you can see we used red, green and then white for the top, but you can use some cotton here as well. We also used a jingle bell and a fuzzy star we found in the craft section. Regular yarn and a sewing needle are needed for the edges. All of these things we had on hand – so I am not sure when or where most of it came from. We also used tacky glue to attach the star and white felt but a hot glue gun would probably work better.
Take the felt and fold it in half, light draw a stocking outline and then cut it out. I did one and cut it out and traced it on the green so they looked about the same. If you are worried you can make your patter on paper first and then trace it on your felt. Once they are cut out, you will want to take the yarn (about 3 feet) and go around the edges of the stocking – do not sew the top closed. Tie it off and then add a loop and tie it off again – then add the jingle bell and tie it off again. Now you will cut a piece of white felt or get a cotton ball and glue it to the top. If using cotton, pull it apart and use small pieces of it to make it look fluffy. We attached the star with tacky glue – but I will use a hot glue gun next time so it sticks better. We took a piece of garland and put it inside to fluff it out and give it a little extra design. You can add whatever you want. If you are not planning to put anything inside of it, pull apart a couple of cotton balls and stuff them into the stocking and sew the top of make it like a pillow.
We then got cards (although these would also be easy to make with some scrapbook paper or cardstock) and wrote the Redbox codes down that we got on the cards. I love how they turned out and I know that our family and friends will love them. You can also add a soda, popcorn, candy, hot chocolate or any of their favorites to a small basket and give them a movie night pack. You could even just get a gift card to go along with the Redbox g-gift card and let them pick their own treats.
Overall it took about 15 minutes to come up with and create these stockings so I think you could do several of them in less than 30 minutes. I think that the great thing about the Redbox codes is that they can be used for 1 day rentals on Blu-Rays, Video Games and more! Plus the codes never expire, so they can use them when they want. For as low as $1.50 a code, you can really make someones day by getting Redbox promo codes. They are great for teachers, friends, neighbors, babysitters, etc. Also, be sure to let them know about Redbox’s Play Pass program. You get a free movie just for signing up and you get access to exclusive deals and freebies. Some of our favorites that we can’t wait to rent are Jurassic World, Pixels, Ant Man, and Pitch Perfect 2. They have so many great movies that it makes it hard to choose! (so we always get a few 😉 ).
