Fall is a great time of year. I love the cooler weather, changing of the leaves, and the decorations. Not only do I enjoy decorating, but I like making my own decorations. In honor of our cat, we decided to make a fun black cat photo holder. It is easy to put together and is adorable. I am sharing the step-by-step with you so you can make one of your own.
We love our cat. He is so sweet and brings our family so much happiness. He is spoiled rotten by my kids and loves to snuggle with whoever is around. He is a big part of our family and because we want the best for him, we feed him Purina® Muse® that we get at Petco.
Petco is the perfect place for us to shop for our pets. We go there all the time because of their great selection of food that our pets love as well as the other items we need from cat toys, beds, care and more. We also have a dog and fish and we are able to get everything we need in one stop. My kids enjoy going there to see all of the cool displays with pets you can buy. They also have a great selection of Purina Muse wet and dry cat food which our cat loves. We like to feed him both because it is important for their oral and digestive health.
My cat really loves the Natural Salmon and Shrimp flavor of wet food and the Sailing with Salmon flavor of dry food, but truth be told, he has eaten every flavor of Purina Muse that we have fed him, and that is not always the case with other brands we have tried. With Purina Muse, he licks his bowl/plate clean every time. There are free samples of Purina Muse wet and dry cat food available while supplies last. You can text Muse to 62066 to claim a free sample!
To make your DIY Wood Black Cat Photo Holder you will need the following:
- a piece of wood 3/4″ thick (we used a piece of an old desk we found so it was already black, you can also paint it black not it’s no big deal)
- 18 gauge wire and needle nose pliers
- a scroll saw (or precut cat head available at craft stores)
- a sander (I have an electric sander so it is faster and easier)
- a drill with a 3/32 drill bit (or best size that matches your wire thickness)
- hot glue gun
- round acrylic gemstones 1 medium pink and two small brown for the eyes
- favorite photos in a 2″x3″ size
The first thing you are going to do is cut out the cat head if you didn’t buy one pre-cut. I used this printable cat head I found and printed out then traced it onto the board.
Once the cat head pattern is traced, you will take your scroll saw and cut the cat head out.
Now take your sander and sand the edges and smooth all the way around.
Next, you will take your drill and drill bit and drill 6-8 holes for the whiskers. I pre-marked mine with a pencil before I drill the holes. Be very careful not to get your hand or other body parts (like a leg) behind the board where the drill bit will come out. Drill from the front to the back – as the back of the board might get a little more torn up as the drill bit comes out.
Once you have all the whisker holes drilled, use the sander and make sure the back is smooth where the drill bit came out.
If you haven’t painted it yet or didn’t buy a board that had a laminate layer on it, then you will want to paint it now. Spray paint works great and drys fast. Do all around the board or just the front and back, leaving the sides natural like we did.
With the cat head done, we will now add the whiskers. Take a piece of wire about 10 inches long and, using the wire cutter/pliers you are going to bend the end to create a few circles in a swirl pattern. Hold the end and twist, then move the pliers about a half-inch down the wire and bend some more, and repeat that until you get a nice swirl on the end. Then take the straight end and stick it through the hole until about 1/2-1 inch is showing, then take the tip of the pliers and twist the metal around to create a little knot so the wire stays in place. After I added all of the whiskers, I hot glued the back of the board over the wire ends so that they wouldn’t move around.
After you get the whiskers all put on, then you will hot glue the gemstones to the front. One medium pink one for the nose and two small brown ones for the eyes.
Last, add your pictures to the ends of the whiskers where you created the swirl.
This is a very fun project and makes great gifts for your friends and family and even your kids’ teachers! If they have a cat, then adding a few cans of Purina Muse with it, makes it a great present for the owner and the pet. You can pick up the food at Petco. Look out for a new range of Masterpieces Dry Formulas coming in February of 2018! Next time you are out, get some Purina Muse cat food for your cat. They will love the taste and you will love the fact that they are made with quality natural ingredients where you don’t have to compromise the flavor.
This is good healthy food for your cat and is just one way to show love for your cat! Purina Muse is the perfect way to show your cat extra love on holidays like Halloween (your cat can have his/her favorite can of food while everyone else is eating their treats), Thanksgiving, Christmas and more!
Purina Muse is so confident that your cat will love their Muse food they offer a Muse Clean Plate™ Guarantee. Try the Muse cat food risk free. If your cat says no, then they will refund your money.
