We have been waiting for part two of the Dune series to come out for a few years. My whole family saw the first film, and so we were excited to head to the theaters to see how the storyline continued (according to the movie timeline). It picks back up right where the first one left off. So if you don’t remember the first one, or don’t remember it well – be sure to watch it before you see Dune: Part Two. You will have a hard time remembering key characters and their role.
Don’t expect this movie to flow any differently than the first one. It is slow in some spots – and the storyline can be a little confusing. While the other movie did have some violence, I felt like this movie was about 80% violence and war. Some of it, while probably not technically classified as graphic, is extremely disturbing so I would not recommend it for kids under 12. My 12-year-old, who has seen a lot of movies with me, flinched during some parts of this. Also, there is a sex scene – which doesn’t show much – but it made my kids very uncomfortable. (see more about all this below in our Dune: Part Two parents guide).
The special effects are amazing. You couldn’t even tell what was CGI to tell you the truth. They just did such a good job. The character’s costumes and makeup were on point and you truly felt like you were there in the middle of it all. We watched it in IMAX which also made the immersive experience that much better.
You really get to see Paul grow from this almost unsure young man into a commanding leader who literally wants to take on the universe to avenge is father’s murder. It has great character development. I haven’t read the books yet (trying to wait until all the movies are out because I am really pissy when it comes to the books being changed (a lot) for the sake of the movie), so I can’t compare them. I did hear others talking and they were laying out a few changes – so if you have read the books, know that they will not line up.
The movie is long – running at almost three hours – so be sure to be prepared. The time passed quickly in some places and slowly in others. Overall, we liked the movie and I am looking forward to seeing it again.

In all of this, there are also a few scenes where it shows a fetus inside of a mother’s stomach.
Overall, the movie is packed with action, adventure, and romance. I would recommend 12+ on this because of the killing and the more mature theme of the movie.
I give it a 4/5.
Dune: Part Two opens in theaters on March 01, 2024

I watched this tonight to screen it before bringing my teenage son.
Can you remind me where the post-love scene when they’re on top of each other is so I can have my son look away? The scene is quite sudden and I don’t remember what precedes it.
Thanks!

I just watched it again so I could remember too. It is after he rides the worm for the first time (his test). HTH 🙂

Very much appreciated!

Do you remember where in the movie the heavily implied sex scene is?
Coralie says
It was close to the middle of the movie. I’m sorry I don’t remember better. I am seeing it again on Tuesday and can post a more specific time.
