This is how our cabinets looked when we moved into our house a little over four years ago. They style isn’t bad, and I really like how they were laid out, but I felt like they were rather blah. On a side note, I also hated the ugly hood over my stove, and really wanted to replace it with a microwave.
My husband is a KSL nut and can find just about anything for a great price. We were blessed to find a pretty much new Microwave that we could afford, and so I wanted to get my cabinets done.
We worked on the cabinets, and it was a project. It was fun for about the first 10 minutes, then I was like – what the heck where we thinking, lol. But, once it was all done, it was totally worth it.
When we went to install the microwave, there wasn’t an outlet – just the wires from where the hood had been, so my hubby actually did all the work himself, and installed an outlet and got it all perfect so it would fit right. He is my superman, seriously. I am so happy with how it turned out!
Now we just need to get new counter tops….. 😉
Have you ever redone your cabinets before? What was your experience like?
Wow… what a difference. But, I have to say and obviously it’s just my opinion, but I love the way your counters “pop” next to the dark cabinets. I love how shiny the cabinets are and that you did all your work yourselves. We have very similar cabinets, has me thinking about re-doing ours. Thanks for the inspiration!

We are trying to decide if to refinish our cabinets again or just replace them. Since they are solid wood I hate to just replace them… but oh you are right about it only being fun for about 10 minutes when refinishing them.
It is a lot of work but it would be worth a shot to try and refinish them first I think. If you don’t like it then you can replace them. Good Luck! 🙂
