We recently went on the Halloween Cruise on the Provo River at CLAS Ropes Course with our two youngest kids. Thanks to CLAS for hosting us. It is located on the west side of Provo (not too far off the freeway). This was such a fun way to spend the night together! It wasn’t too cold (yet) so we just wore jackets – but I would recommend watching the weather and taking heavy jackets and maybe even a blanket.
From the minute you get there until you leave you will love all of the decorations and how much fun everything is. They take care to make sure that you feel involved in everything as well. Overall the Halloween Cruise on the Provo River is a lot of fun. We had a great time.
Here is what you can expect:
- Family-friendly interactive Pirate experience
We very much enjoyed our pirate guide (Captain No Beard) and had a great time listening to his stories, finding the treasure with him, and thwarting a nemesis. Kids 12ish and under will LOVE this. Older kids and adults will enjoy the beautiful lights, pumpkins, and the delightful boat ride.
- Over 100 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns
I was blown away by all of the amazing jack-o-lanterns there are displayed. They are so much fun and a huge variety of styles, characters, scenes, and designs.
- Riverboat seats up to 35 people
The boats are big and can accommodate a lot of people. This would be a lot of fun to go to with a big group of friends, an extended family activity, or even a youth activity.
- Round trip is approx. 20 – 25 minutes
You check in, and then you can sit and watch the movie (see below) while you wait for your group to be called. They take you on the short walk down to the dock – stopping to equip all kids under 12 with life jackets. Once on the boat, you will have a “pirate” pulling you with the roap that is attached above the water, while the Captain talks and entertains. So there is no noisy motor or engine.
- Departures every 15-30 minutes
- 30-minute Family Friendly movie (Spooky Bats & Scaredy Cats) before or after your cruise
- Concessions are available for purchase
We only waited about 15 minutes to go back and start our river cruise. While you are waiting you can watch the movie and get treats from the concessions. I do have to say that most places we have been to usually overcharge for concessions – but these are very reasonably priced. It’s fun to get a treat and watch the movie while waiting for your boat.
