How we picked our Dog's name - Lovebugs and Postcards

I love dogs. I have always had one in my life and I am glad that we were able to get a dog so that my kids can grow up with the same experiences. We were blessed to find two beautiful yellow labs. They were only 8 weeks old when we got them, and when we picked them up we thought we had a boy and a girl. I love the Twilight series and so we were joking about naming them Bella and Edward or Bella and Jacob. Jake ended up sticking to my dog – I loved it. My husband thought we were getting a girl and ended up with another boy – so we decided to go with something different all together for him and named him Luke. Luke and Jake – we loved it. Although half the time we called them Juke and Lake – lol.

They were cute, fun and very playful. We loved having them. As time went on, I realized that maybe two dogs was to much for me, especially when my sister (who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer) came to live with us, so we had to part with Luke. It was a little heartbreaking but a good decision for our family. Jake is mellow and patient with our kids. We couldn’t have asked for a better dog as a pet for our family. Him and our cat Mr. Fuzz are cute together and I love that we have them as part of our family. Since we have 4 girls and 2 boys – my kids often joke that Jake and Fuzz make up the numbers so there are 4 boys and 4 girls.

It is a beautiful story about how the dog got its unusual name of Duck, and I love how the parents let it roll. It’s perfect.
