My daughter (7 years old) got glasses when she was 5. She has had to wear them “only for reading” is what we were told, but we knew the the left eye was a little worse then the right. With school starting back up soon, we wanted to get her eyes checked and see if she needed a new prescription. We went into JCPenny Optical to get her eye exam and let her pick out some new glasses. He confirmed that her left eye was worse than her right, but we had no idea that it was at about 20/400 for her vision. The eye doctor was amazing, he was able to get her to go from not even being able to see the huge 6″ ‘E’ clearly – to seeing a row of small letters (the 25 line) so he was able to take her vision from 20/400 down to 20/25. I am so happy! She is happier too – and I can tell that she is sporting a little more confidence now, knowing that she will be able to see the board in school clearly.
He recommended that she wear her glasses all day, and not just for reading and that will help to strengthen that eye. This brought us back to frames and make sure we pick some out that are comfortable for her and ones that she really loves because she has to wear them all the time. While we were shopping around I was very impressed with the variety and styles. We were able to find her three pairs, all with spring hinges, and we got one that has stainless steel frames.
We don’t have vision insurance, and so we needed to find someplace that we could that would allow us to get what we needed for an affordable price. We were able to go to JCPenny Optical and get the eye exam for around $40, and then the glasses were part of a Back to School promotion that made most pairs only $29.99 – AND since its Friends and Family weekend – we got an extra 15% off! We were super excited. That made the glasses – three pairs – and the eye exam about $167. It was a little more for her lenses since her left eye needed a stronger prescription – and I was thrilled at the price.
Both the Doctor and the assistant were very helpful, happy to answer any questions, and helped us through it all without any issues. We were in and out in less than an hour. Here is more information about this amazing Back to School promotion:

My kids have a basically non-existent nose bridge like me so I know how frustrating it is to have glasses that can’t stay up well. So it’s important to find glasses that will work with our weird nose bridge.
