My kids love technology. They know how to use some things better than I do, but I am ornery and really limit the about of time they get to spend watching TV, playing video games, tablets, or other electronics simply because it can use up a lot of their time and not teach them anything. When I was told I was going to be able to review the new LeapTV from Leapfrog, I knew this would be the solution I have been looking for. It would give then there “tech” time, but it would be educational AND interactive so they wouldn’t just be sitting there playing a pointless game.
There are three different ways to play the LeapFrog LeapTV.
- Body Motion – you don’t need the remote here – the game is interactive with just your movements (SO COOL)
- Pointer Play – Have the remote in the open position to use it kind of like a wand or a sword. (KIDS LOVE THIS)
- Classic Control – Hold it like a classic controller and play your way through face-paced supercharged action. (CLASSIC 😉 ).
We had a large group of kids and adults at our “Leap into Gaming” party, and all of them (from toddler to pre-teen) LOVED playing the LeapTV. Not only is it VERY interactive, but the games are fun and educational at the same time. They love to dance, and so they fell in love with the Dance & Learn right away. The sports is just as fun and interactive. The LeapTV system also has several games available now, and will have many more coming out soon.
You get to make “Profiles” for each child, which includes age, name, picture, colors and more. They also get their size “measured” so they can use this for the camera to adjust when there is no controller and pick up on their movements. By having profiles, the games adapt to each child’s learning level and starts them with the most basic skills. As they grow and learn more, it automatically adjusts so that it keeps them perfectly challenged.
The system is designed for kids 3-8 but my 10 year old loved it just as much. It teaches core skills that will reinforce their schooling in a variety of subjects like reading, mathematics, science, and problem solving. The motion sensing camera is great because it not only senses there movements, but it also “puts” your child into the game by using the camera to record them and turn your TV into essentially a big mirror. Its so fun. The controller is the perfect size and worked great for everyone from the 3 years olds to the 10 year olds at our party.
If you have been thinking about getting a LeapFrog LeapTV , then do it. Your kids will love it and it is something they can do and still be learning and having fun. They will spend hours just wanting to play it so they can watch themselves on the TV. Its so funny. Overall we are really happy with the system. Customer service is amazing and very helpful and we love the games that they have for it. It will be a hit in your home.
