I have always been a “big boned” person. This is just a polite way of saying that I have almost always been overweight and there have only been two times in my life where I actually didn’t feel uncomfortable in my own skin. I am happy – but I want to be healthy. I have struggled for years to lose the weight of my last pregnancy – wanting to get below 200 lbs before I got pregnant again, but it didn’t happen. So I am pregnant with my fifth child, and terribly overweight. In the first trimester, and even the second, I WANT to eat healthy and exercise and even lose a few pounds – because honestly I have a few to give. I want this to be a healthy pregnancy and I want to be able to keep up with my kids as I get older. When I was asked to be part of a 30-Day Challenge with Noom Coach I was so excited! This is what I needed to get my butt in gear.
I have used apps on my phone before where I track what I eat – but I have to tell you that I have never used anything like Noom Fitness Coach. It has a meal tracking feature – but there is so much more to this app, that I feel like I have a personal trainer sitting on my shoulder 24/7 monitoring my progress and telling me what to do. If I don’t check in and update my progress I get a push notification (an optional feature that I enabled, because I want the extra support) and it lets me know that I have “tasks” waiting for me.
I started this last week weighing at a whopping 239 lbs. I was so surprised when I stepped on the scale and got that read out – I litterally became a little shocked. That is the most I have ever weighed even at the height of my pregnancies, I didn’t weight that much. I can blame it on a hundred things – but the biggest factor was simply that I was making terrible choices when it came to what I put into my body. Not just food – but drinks. I started using Noom on Friday of last week – and over the past 6 days – I have lost 5 lbs! YAY! It might not seem like much – but let me tell you, when you see that scale go down a little each day – that is the biggest motivator. My ultimate goal (after I have the baby) is to get back down to about 165 lbs. That will be my pre-baby weight before I had any kids – and would be a great place for me to be since I think this is our last one.
I haven’t really been exercising more – but I have really been watching what I eat – and that has totally been a huge factor in this. I have more energy, and I feel better. Being pregnant drains your body, so you want to do as much as you can to help it stay healthy. I am eating better and drinking more water. I log everything I eat and let me tell you, it makes a difference in what you eat when you know you have to put it in to your Food Log and see what a difference it makes. Here is my favorite part…it has a list of foods that are separated into different categories that range from “Green” (which is really good for you) to “Red” (which you really should eat sparingly). This list is amazing. It has totally helped changed my eating habits this week already. Healthy weight loss during pregnancy can be done – and with the right tools, you will be sucessful.
