I received a Moana party kit in order to do this post. All opinions are my own.
Disney’s Moana is one of my kids’ favorite movies. We watch it at least once a day – so we are all walking around singing the songs from it and my little kids are reenacting the movie with their Moana dolls and toys. It is a lot of fun and I love that they love it. It is a great movie with a message about being who you are, being strong, and standing up for what you believe in. Even my son loves it. We got a really fun Family Movie Night kit with a digital copy of Moana and so we decided to watch it and do a fun craft, Moana “Shiny” Shells.
We gathered our supplies, hooked up the Chromecast and redeemed the Moana digital movie in our Disney Movies Anywhere account and then got started. Here is what you will need for this craft:
Shells (we got a bag from the dollar store, but Walmart has them, and if you live close to the Ocean, you can go gather your own), Mod Podge, paint brush, glitter, glue, fake gems. You will also need a package of large fish hooks, white spray paint and hot glue to add the hook on the top. I bought the fish hooks than spray painted them white to match Maui’s hook.
Once you have everything together, lay down some newspaper so you don’t get your table all covered in glitter, and then grab a paper plate so you can dump the excess glitter back into the jar after you coat each shell. Start by taking a shell and using the paint brush to coat the whole top side of the shell with Mod Podge. Then you will put the shell on the plate and sprinkle glitter over the top to coat it. Once that dries (like 5-10 minutes) take your glue (we used the all-purpose tacky glue) and start gluing the gems on. You may also opt to glue the gems on without putting glitter on. Now this is done, take your hot glue gun and glue Maui’s hook to the top.
Be sure to pick up your copy of Moana on Digital and then get ready for a super fun night with your family! I would love to know what fun party night ideas you came up with and how your Shiny Shells craft turned out!

Just one question. How did you make the fish hooks so they would not poke anyone or anything
Coralie says
You can put a small dob of hot glue and after it has cooled a second you can mold it down so it covers the sharp points.
