On Tuesday 3/26 – the Obama administration put a new law into effect called the Monsanto bill. To put it simply, Monsanto engineers genetically modified organisms (GMO) and genetically engineered (GE) seeds and crops. The provision in this bill, protects genetically modified seeds from litigation suits over health risks posed by the crops’ consumption. Regardless of the hundreds of thousands of people that signed petitions to STOP the passing of this bill, it still went through. This scares me more than a little – so here is what I intend to do: GROW MY OWN GARDEN and SHOP FARMER’S MARKETS.
(you can read more about this here)
Growing your own Garden can seem a little scary, but most of the time you will be able to pick it up quickly and be able to provide fresh fruits and veggies for your family all summer long without spending much out of pocket. This not only ensures that you are getting organic healthy food, but that you are not eating GMO and GE foods. When buying produce, seeds, or anything else make sure that you buy foods that are NOT genetically modified.
If we have to deal with having to worry about the possibility of feeding my family GMO and GE foods, then they should at least be labeled!
Under this new bill, Monsanto is protected from litigation suits over health risks. That is scary to me because what if they find it causes diseases or illnesses – we can’t do anything about it!
What do you think about this? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

It’s not Obama’s bill, but a rider inserted last minute into a bill to prevent the government shut down. The Obama admin isn’t the one that put it in, it’s big money This law is temporary, with a “sunset” in six months. You can thank Senator Roy Blunt, Republican from Missouri for the honor of the frankenfood with his handiwork with Monsanto to get the language just right and into the bill.
