Organizing your office
I have been on a cleaning kick lately. I think my “spring cleaning” kicked in late because I have been going through our house, room by room and reorganizing and rearranging. This not only is helping us get rid of a ton of stuff that we don’t need/use anymore, but it is helping me feel like I am actually accomplishing something during the day besides sitting here on my computer! lol. I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to organize my office! It turned out so well I wanted to share. So sit back for a few and enjoy!
The before pictures are super embarrassing. Now that I am looking back at them I can’t believe that I let it go for so long. It just needed to be done and I kept putting it off. (don’t laugh to hard)

It took me two full days of organizing, sorting and cleaning to get it back into usable condition. It was one of those "I am so excited" when I started, and then it turned into "what the heck was I thinking?!?!?" about two hours later. HAHA. If it wasn't for my Huger Games audio book (that I got for free through Audible), it would have been a long two days. Since the movie just came out, I wanted to read the book again, but found myself short on time between this project, blogging, my family and house. I was able to listen to the whole thing, and then start listening to my Breaking Dawn book too!
This is the mid-way point. There is a small light at the end of the tunnel.
It was kind of hard at this point because, let’s face it, sorting through and organizing stuff can be tedious. (I am so glad I had Hunger Games to listen to). The biggest key to me organizing my office was finding a way for me to have all of my scrapbook stuff organized and nice looking, as well as my office stuff. I had it in mind to go buy to large shelving units, but after talking my husband, we decided we didn’t want to afford it right now. Feeling a little bummed, I didn’t know what to do. He suggested that we take two out of our pantry that weren’t really being utilized with “storage” items and use those for now. I loved it! A free way for me to get what I wanted. So after a few hours I finally got them unloaded, broken down, pulled out and everything put back in. (my hubby was at work or he would have been helping for sure). Once I got the shelves in, it made a huge difference in how fast everything went. I got some baskets for a $1 to put items in that were in the cubby’s in the hutch on my old desk. And they fit perfectly on my shelves. I also had a few slotted paper organizers that helped with sorting and organizing my papers.
And this is the finished product! I am so excited to have the shelves behind my desk now and to be working on the larger desk. It’s nice to actually be able to have room to put things on it without them falling off all the time. Another advantage is that my kids love to sit on the other side of the desk and do their thing. It helps me interact with them more and help them with things. We got their desk organized too, and they actually have been enjoying sitting at it to do activities and crafts.
It’s not perfect yet, but I really love my new arrangement and it was totally worth the time and effort. It has made me feel rejuvenated and ready to get to work. It’s amazing how having a clean area can help you be more productive and more organized 😉 I was amazed at how much more quickly I worked while listening to my Hunger Games audio book from Audible. It kept me distracted. My hubby also enjoys listening to it on his phone during him commute. You just can’t beat a free audiobook!
