We received a copy for review. All opinions are my own. Ready Player One is available to own on 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital. This is one movie that you will want to add to your collection. The storyline is fantastic (which you already know if you read the book by Ernest Cline) and Steven Speilberg did a phenomenal job of bringing it to life on the screen. Tye Sheridan (Wade/Parzival) and Olivia Cooke (Samantha/Art3mis) light up the screen with their acting, charisma, and chemistry. Overall, we loved the movie and have seen it several times since it’s release in the theater. If you love action, video games and a little bit of romance, this movie will “rock your world”.
This movie has a bit of language, some really intense scenes (like the reenactment of the Shining) and a little bit of risque dress. My advice would be to watch the movie first (like we did) and then watch it with your kids if it is a good fit. I appreciate that they cleaned the language up A LOT from the book.
In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spend their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone—the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the OASIS to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends—known as the High Five—are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
