We were able to screen the movie in order to make this Sing 2 Parents Guide. All opinions are my own.
First off, I have to say to watch the first Sing movie before you go see this one. It just makes it that much better. The new characters are a fantastic addition and add that much more to the movie. Buster Moon (played by Matthew McConaughey) takes his crew on the road to Redshore City to pull off their biggest show yet. Rosita (played by Reese Witherspoon), Johnny (played by Taron Egerton), Meena (played by Tori Kelly), Gunter (played by Nick Kroll), and Ash (played by Scarlett Johansson) come together in one of the best animated movies. They meet Porsha Crystal (played by Halsey), Clay Calloway (played by Bono), Darius (played by Eric André), and Alfonso (played by Pharrell Williams) and together pull off an amazing show at the Crystal Theater.
Overall, the movie is SO FREAKING GOOD! The storyline is entertaining and keeps you involved and engaged. Even the youngest viewers will love it. We took my parents (in their late 70’s) and they loved it. It is honestly just a great all-around movie that you will love no matter your age. There are so many songs and all of the singing is on point. You will laugh – a lot. And want to dance around. There are a couple of more “intense” moments in the movie that are touching or emotional. Those just make it that much better. GO SEE THE MOVIE, lol. It is that good!
Sing 2 Parents Guide
Sing 2 is rated PG for some rude material and mild peril/violence.
Sing 2 runs for 1 hour and 52 minutes.
There are no Sing 2 end credit scenes.
Sex & Nudity – None (It does show one of the characters jumping out of bed and another character screaming when he looks at him – but nothing inappropriate is shown).
Violence & Gore – Crystal tries to throw Moon off of the building. Crystal throws Moon off of a high rise. Some things are broken when one of the characters is angry. One of the characters is shot with a paintball gun multiple times – but it is very funny.
Profanity – A half uttered OMG.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – Nothing prominent or in the foreground
Frightening & Intense Scenes – The little creatures that sing one of the songs are kinda creepy, and there are a couple of fight scenes (that are choreographed) but very light and very funny.
About Sing 2
This holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as the ever-optimistic Buster Moon and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star—played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut—to join them.
Buster (Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey) has turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City.
But with no connections, Buster and his cast—including harried mother Rosita (Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, provocateur Gunter (Nick Kroll)—have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by ruthless mogul Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).
In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife. Even worse, Buster has failed to realize that Mr. Crystal is an egocentric gangster who would rather drop somebody off the roof of a building than be lied to.
As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Rosita’s leading role in the show gets ripped away and handed to Mr. Crystal’s spoiled daughter, Porsha, played by Grammy-nominated artist Halsey. Desperate to save the show, and his life, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage.
What begins as a dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.
