We were able to screen The Courier to write this review. All opinions are my own.
I love a good spy movie, so I have been looking forward to watching this. One thing I do have to say is that from the beginning to the end, the movie keeps a steady pace. You also need to pay attention to every minute of the movie or you will not know what is going on. This is based on a true story that follows British businessman Greville Wynne (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and his part in defusing the Cuban Missile Crisis. His work along with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (who is played by Merab Ninidze) comes together to make a tense thriller.
Parents Guide:
There is very little language. There is a lot of drinking and smoking, as per the era and what was common. There is also some nudity, but this is when Greville is imprisoned and it shows him being stripped searched (this part also shows them doing a cavity search) and then again later when it shows him from behind when he is showering. If it weren’t for these two scenes, I would say that the movie is actually very clean. We had our kids ages 13 and 16 watching with us and the were quick to close their eyes lol. Both scenes only lasted about 5 seconds give or take. It also shows a love scene between him and his wife, but nothing graphic is shown.
Our Review:
Benedict Cumberbatch is incredible in this film. You are drawn in and filled with every emotion, the ups and downs, and every moment of the movie. While I didn’t cry, there is a lot of emotion in the film and as a wife and mother, I can only imagine what his family went through. At the end of the movie, it shows a video and photos of the real people and I enjoyed seeing them and understanding more about the people who sacrificed so much. This is a great movie that I highly recommend. Because of some of the content, I would recommend 13+. The movie comes out in theaters on March 19! Get your tickets now and go see it this weekend.
