The Lantern Festival in Utah is one of our favorite things to do every year. Getting together and lighting lanterns, roasting s’mores, and everything in between makes it one of the best nights of the year! They hold two events in Utah each year in the Tooele/Grantsville area. Both are great events and are made all the more fun when you go with friends and family.
What to expect at the Lantern Festival in Utah
When you first get there, you will have to check in and get your bracelets. Then someone in your party can take the tags to redeem them for the lanterns and s’mores kits while everyone else gets your space setup. We didn’t get a fire pit, but everyone is pretty nice and we were able to share with our “neighbors”. There is a lot of people there, so keep a watchful eye on your littles.
We always bring chairs, a cooler with food, blankets, jackets and things to do for the kids. One of the things they enjoy doing the most while we wait for nightfall is decorating the lanterns. Even Grandma got into it π We had a lot of fun getting them all ready to fly.
There is also a great kids area with bounce houses, a climbing wall, etc where you can take your kiddos to get some energy out. There are a lot of bathrooms located on both sides of the area, and they do have parking in several different places, and handicap parking if needed. Just ask to see where you need to go.
When it got closer to dark, we were able to roast our marshmallows that came in our s’mores kit and make s’mores for everyone in our group. They were yummy and the perfect treat before we started getting our lanterns ready to fly. We had a great time and the kids loved seeing all of the lanterns in the sky.
