I was able to attend a screening in order to write this Thor: Love and Thunder parents guide. All opinions are my own.
I will be honest, I was a little worried about this movie because the trailers made it look a little cheesy and a little “peace and love”. I want a movie with some good action and a storyline I can get behind. This delivered on most of those. The whole movie centers around Thor finding himself and coming to peace with who he is. It reintroduces Jane (who has become The Mighty Thor) and I enjoyed their banter and the comedy between Thor and Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
There is a lot of adult themes in this movie that may have your kids asking questions. Three distinct sayings of Orgy by Zeus (played by Russell Crowe). Zeus also “blows” Thor’s clothes off and he is shown naked from behind and there are some innuendos about his naked state. Talking about two dads making a baby (Korg). Valkyrie kissing another girl’s hand. Thor and Jane share kisses (longer kisses). One of the characters is sick and is shown in a hospital. A dad watches his child die and buries her.
Be prepared to talk about them if your kids bring it up, but it may very well go over their heads as well. You can see below for more details. I thought the storyline was great. It picks up with Thor and the Guardians together and works into a story with Thor trying to find Gorr and stop him. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are once again great together onscreen. Valkyrie has a bigger part in this and she shines as well. I really felt like Christen Bale did a phenomenal job as Gorr the God Butcher. There were so many elements to his character and he really brought them all to the table.
The special effects were great. I love Ragnorok the most so far, but this is right in line with the other movies and a great one that will be added to our collection. While Gorr is a little dark and creepy, this movie is not as dark as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness or other recent shows.
Overall, I give it a 7/10. I enjoyed watching it (and can’t wait to see it again). Look out for some fun easter eggs and cameos! If you haven’t seen the other Thor movies here they are:

Watching it on the IMAX always makes it so much more fun! I highly recommend it if you can! Check out where it is playing and get your tickets here: https://www.marvel.com/movies/thor-love-and-thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder Parents Guide
Thor: Love and Thunder is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, language, some suggestive material, and partial nudity. It runs for 2 hours.
There are two credit scenes for Thor: Love and Thunder. One at the beginning of the credits and one at the end.
Sex & Nudity – 5/10 – Shows Chris Hemsworth’s (Thor) naked bum for about 3 seconds. Shows him from the waist up unclothed. Some of the “harem” girls are dressed a little skimpy. Talk of orgies. Shows same sex relationships/attractions between Korg and his partner, and Valkyrie and other females. Thor and Jane (Lady Thor) kissing. Some adult humor. Talk about making babies.
Violence & Gore – 5/10 – A lot of fighting. Humans vs humans. Gods vs gods. Gods vs creatures. Humans vs creatures. Kids are fighting creatures. Man stabbed and beheaded (not graphic).
Profanity – 4/10 – 3+ uses of Damn, 12+ uses of Shit, 2+ uses of Hell, use of word God as expletive as well as talking about the different Gods in the movie (ie: God of Thunder). Over 20 uses of profanity. Well up from other Thor movies. Most of them are the word shit*y – as a joke between Thor and Jane.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 3/10 – Shows some of the characters drinking beer or similar.
Frightening & Intense Scenes – 5/10 – shows shadow monsters that turn into creatures. Kids are taken from their beds (and held captive) by the shadows and Gor. Gor is creepy to watch move and look at. Man being strangled. Shows people dying.
Overall the movie is great for ages 10 and up if they are aware of the other Marvel movies. This one is a little dark and has some creepy elements to it, but it is a great movie and we all enjoyed it.

About Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – one of self-discovery. But his efforts are interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum.
