Our family has been big Tinkerbell fans since the beginning. From dress ups, to movies, to toys we have Tinkerbell in our home. I had the opportunity to watch a pre-screening of the new Tinkerbell and The Legend of the Neverbeast movie came out on DVD and Blu-Ray yesterday (March 3), and I was not disappointed. The storyline is fantastic and is really something that my kids can relate to. The movie centers around Fawn who is an Animal Talent Fairy and she loves all animals. This part of her character is very strong throughout the whole movie. I love that it makes her who she is and you can really feel it from her during the film. Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) who plays the voice of Fawn does an amazing job of relating that and bringing out the emotions in the film.
The movie starts out with Fawn and Tinkerbell trying to sneak an animal out of Pixie Hollow and it all goes wrong. Afterward, Fawn is told that she needs to listen to her mind as well as her heart. This theme really carries throughout the film and she learns that her heart is a good guide. While Fawn is out working with her Rabbits (who are really cute and funny) she hears a roar like noise and goes to investigate. Deciding to follow her heart, she traces the noise to a dark cave and goes inside only to find the Neverbeast. Upon inspection she sees that he has a thorn in his paw and that is why he is “complaining”. While trying to pull the thorn out, the beast gets mad and roars at her, alerting the rest of the fairies to his presence.
Meanwhile, Nyx heard the loud roar and it on a mission to find out what made the sound. They eventually pick up the trail of the Neverbeast after a Sunflower field is destroyed and chase it down, but Fawn ends up helping the Neverbeast hide. Nyx finds information telling them about the Legend of the Neverbeast and they all fear that he is there to destroy them. Fawn doesn’t believe it but after Tinkerbell gets hurt, she feels like she has no choice to but to help the Scout Fairies capture Gruff.
Fawn wants her friends to know about Gruff, so she brings them out in the middle of the night to introduce them. Tinkerbell, Vidia, Iridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist aren’t quite sure what to think, but they love Fawn so they stick around. They grow to love the Neverbeast as much as Fawn does. You can see the love and friendship between “Gruff” and Fawn and it is really touching and pulls you into the movie that much more.
It is packed with action, love, laughter, and a few tears. The story has a very emotional ending that will really touch every heart small and old. Bring (or have them on hand) tissues when you watch it! Your kids will love it. Even though the appearance of the Neverbeast can look a little scary, I think every kids will walk away from the film wanting a stuffed animal that looks just like him because he is just so dang cute in the movie – just like a big ‘ol dog.
Overall we really loved the film and the theme of the movie. My kids got the DVD a couple days ago and have watched it over and over.
