Shopping for school lunches can be fun for the first few days, but after that is can become crazy and monotonous. With three kids going to school this year and need school lunches I am going to have to be pretty creative. Fortunately my kids are really picky so I have a pretty broad spectrum to choose from, but I still like being creative and fun and making sure it is well balanced. Another thing that I always make sure I pick up is wipes (like Wet Ones® Singles) so that they can clean their hands before they eat.
Before I go shopping for school lunches, I like to sit down and make a menu of sorts for them for the week. That way I know what I need to buy and how much. It also gives me a chance to look back on what we had before and make sure their lunches are not too repetitious and that they are creative and fun.
I can also get things ready ahead of time, like if I buy a bulk box of Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish Crackers, then I can go through and bag them all up for the week, so that saves time in the morning. After I have my list ready I head out to Walmart to pick up what I need. There is so much to choose from, and I love being able to pick everything up that I need for the week.
A sample menu for the week looks like this:
Day 1: Sandwiches, Fruit Salad, Yogurt, Carrots, Juice Box, Brownie
Day 2: Shredded Chicken and Cheese in a Tortilla, Fruit Cup, Broccoli, Juice Box, Goldfish Crackers
Day 3: Sliced meat and cheese with crackers, Applesauce cup, Carrots, Juice Box, Chips
Day 4: Peanut Butter with Chopped up Celery and Raisins, Gold Fish Crackers, Grapes, Juice Box
Day 5: Cucumber Salad, Roll, Yogurt, Juice Box, Cookies
There are so many fun ideas, and writing it down help when you go grocery shopping. Other things you want to make sure you put on your list are Wet Ones Singles, a reusable freezer pack for each lunch box, baggies, and a few other things. Some of our go-to snacks for lunches boxes are Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers, yogurts, and fruit cups.
I would love to know more about what you do for your school lunches and how you go shopping for school lunches. Be sure to check out www.wishihadwetones.com for a chance to win a years supply of Wet Ones® for your home and your child’s classroom, plus
