Utah’s Hogle Zoo Review
One of my kids’ favorite places to visit is Utah’s Hogle Zoo. It doesn’t matter if we were to go everyday, I know that they would be able to have fun for at least a couple of hours. If you only go once or twice a year you can easily spend the whole day there. They have new exhibits and new animals and even a new play area for kids that has a slide and a splash pad. They are adding new exhibits for more animals right now. Here is how our day at the zoo went:
When you first arrive, there is this giant “water” ball. It spins on its own, but my kids still like to try and push it thinking that they can throw it off course or make it change directions lol. This is also a great way for your kids (and even you) to cool off on hot days.
Every day they have programs to help you get to know the animals better and see some interaction. There is the Elephant Encounter (pictured above), The Wildlife Theater Bird Show, Rocky Shores Sea Lion/Seal Training, Discovery Theater, and Eagles on the Plaza. (you can learn more about these programs here)
We were also able to see them feed the Rhino’s. That was really cool. I also love the Brown Bears they have. These bears are so cute. They are part of the new Rocky Shores exhibit. One thing I really like about these new exhibits is that they made a LOT of viewing space so that several people can enjoy the animals at once.
There are many spots for Photo opportunities throughout the Zoo. My kids love to pose EVERY TIME we go and that is ok. I really like looking back and comparing the difference between “now and then”. There are the Lions. Gorilla, Rhino, Eagles Nest, Elephant, and a few others.
This is just one of the many Lego Animals at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. I can’t believe how amazing they are. It was just as fun to see these as it was to see the real animals (almost 😉 ). You will have to walk all over and keep your eye out because they are not displayed by their respective real life animals.
This is the new Lighthouse Point Splash Zone. It is a great way to cool off on hot days. There is a huge twisty slide that goes through the light house, a pirate zone, then rocks and “land” where you can splash in the water and get a little wet. My kids loved this.
I will admit that the Polar Bear is one of my favorite animals to see at the Zoo. It is so cute and very active so it is always walking around, swimming, or getting into something. We were also very impressed with the spectacular Lego Polar Bear. I was life size and simply amazing. That alone is almost worth going for.
Other great things I love about Utah’s Hogle Zoo are that there is a wagon and stroller rentals, gift shops, places to eat, get drinks, snow cones and even ice cream. They have mist sprayers throughout the park so that on hot days you can cool off. It is very family friendly and a great place to go any time of the year. Memberships are very affordable, especially if you have a large family, it is well worth the money. They also, usually, have free days on the last Wednesday of the month in the winter.
